Karl Elsener I opened a knife-cutting workshop in Ibach, Switzerland with the support and assistance of his mother, Victoria. Before opening the workshop, Karl was fascinated by cutting tools. He studied knife making and trained in Paris and Tuttlingen, Germany, where he specialized in surgical equipment and high-quality razor blades. One of the reasons Karl invented pocket knives was to support military forces in the Alps.
